I'm working with girl Annie from China, and she says, "you know, we can do something simple, like spanish tortillas if you want..." and so I'm thinking, Hell yeah! I need to learn the recipe anyways. SO, here it is :)
Its quite simple, for a 1 person meal, you just need:
Comida;
-1 potato
-3 eggs
-some olive or sunflower oil
-any meat or veggies you'd like to thrown in, like some onion, pepper or whatever
-a bit of salt
Objectos:
-a pan (a smaller one!)
-a plate or other like sized pan
-a bowl and fork
-a spatula
*Note- its important to have a smaller pan like, the size of your hand or so, because the spanish tortilla needs to be thick. Well, it doesn't NEED to be, but its easier to handle that way.
So what you do is first cut up the veggies. Slice the potato up in to small squares, and the veggies too. Next, you heat the pan, put in some oil, and stirfry.
First do the potatos because they take longer, then toss in the others.
Once that is all cooked and soft, you turn the heat down a bit, crack the eggs into the bowl and beat those bad boys like you were gonna scramble them. You can add in some salt or garlic salt if you like that. Remember, the veggies and taters are still in the pan.
Right, so once the eggs are beat to hell, you mix around the veggies so they aren't sticking, and dump in the eggs. Now with spatula or whatever, mix it all up in the pan really quick. MAKE SURE the pan isn't too hot, because the eggs will cook to damn fast and it will be a mess. But there should also be enough oil so that isn't that big of a problem. I dunno, I haven't actually done it yet, so I'm not sure on that one. However it SHOULD be fine >.<
So, once the eggs start to cook, cover it with the plate or other pan so it cooks all the way through. Once it starts to get firm, its almost done, and then you can decided if you want a dry spanish torilla, or a wetter one. Its up to you. Experiment >.<
When it gets to where you want it, flip the whole thing over onto the plate, or into the other pan (that has a TINY bit of oil covering it) and then let it sit for a minute. Then it should be ready to serve :) Put it on a plate and eat up! SO GOOD.
Ok, so now I'm going to describe to you and typical meal here that I REALLY enjoy, and hopefully you can too :)
I REALLY like Tortilla Espanola because its tasty, filling, and cheap. But you can make it a little more classy, or even just more tasty by adding a few more sides.
So on the plate you have your spanish tortilla, and on a side dish, you have a serving of Pisto, that I've described. If you HAVE some spanish olives, break those out and put them in a smaller dish. I'm not sure if American olives would taste the same, but I'll try it and let you know haha. I prefer the olives that are marinated and have the pits. They just tend to taste better. For a drink, you should have a bottle of decent beer and a bottle of Lemon soda CHILLED before hand. Take the two and mix a drink half and half with each. Then a glass of water too because its good to stay hydrated :) Lastly, get a stick of bread (a bollo de pan) and break off half of it and stick it to the side. I LOVE dipping the bread into the pisto. VERY good.
And thats it! A typical spanish lunch. Cheap and EXCELLENT. :)
Hopefully, if you don't get to try making it yourself, I'll be around at some point to make it for you haha. Its not hard, but I guess I've had it enough to know when its good or not.
But thats my short on the Spanish Tortilla!
Until lata ~ Paul
