To make a Bocadillo is simple. You just cut a bollo in half and stick some meat in between. Its like a sandwich, but the bollo is like a bagette you would buy at the store. The Tinto de Verano, what gives the meal its good flavor, is also easy to make.
First you start with a bottle of very cheap Red wine. I'm taling 1 Euro, or 1.46 in US dollars. And yes, it has to be red because While tastes horrible and it simply wouldn't be TINTO without it. Next you buy a bottle of lemon soda. Generally people here use Fanta soda (yeah, you know the stuff), but if you wanna go really cheap, instead of paying 1 Euro for that, you can spend 0.50 Euro and buy a generic bottle like I did. Its all the same anyways.
To actually MAKE the drink, you mix about 4 parts Lemon soda with 1 part Wine. So what you have is a lightly tinted lemon soda drink. Yum! The best part is, you only use a LITTLE wine, to change the color and flavor of the drink. However, how much you actually is of course completely optional. I like just a little because I think that tastes the best :)
This is what I've been using for soda and wine:
Anyways, after that I left to meet with some people at an even called Botellon at around 12:45am. (You have to calculate in walking time which ends up being around 2 hours for the entire night) This is the equivalent to Uconns Spring weekend X-lot, only it happens every weekend here that it is warm and not raining. We're talking a few thousand people all gathered into a large parking lot behind one of the biggest shopping malls here in Granada...and I only saw 2 police the entire time. That was fun for about an hour and a half. I left my group to call Alyssa :) :) :) and when I got back, the whole place had turned sketchy, everyone had become drunk, and it was time to go.
From there we went to a Chupiteria at around 2:20am, which is of course derived from the word Chupito= shot. So a chupiteria is a bar that serves only Shots. There is a list on the wall of about 150 and they are divided into three groups; Suave, Regular, y Fuerte. You can figure that one out. And they are cheap. One Euro per shot. Don't worry, I wasn't drinking that night.
At around 3am we left for the discoteca Camboria which is in the Albicene area of town. This is essentially where the gipsies lived and where the caves are that we happened to visit earlier that day :) The club is actually IN a cave, with a VIP area upstairs for those who arrive early enough and it is surrounded by glass windows and has a breathtaking view of the Alhambra castle. We stayed there dancing until around 6:30am and went home by walking. Haha, it was a long walkg too! At least 45 minutes.
Saturday was the tough day. We decided last minute that we were going to go to the beach. So we slept for about an hour and got up and bought tickets (10 euros round) to the closest beach. PHEW! It was gorgeous!
We got there at around 11 and there were Dozens of ocean fishing poles all along the beach. So we all laid out our blankets (it was me, vinnie, paul c, liz, gena, leah, missy, kerry, and angie) and I don't know about everyone else, but I slapped on some sunscreen and passed out. I ended up giving my towel to Kerry and Vinnie shared my big sheet because they both brought face towel sized towels. I however was sitting pretty with a giant sheet, covers, and a pillow :) Thanks mom for making me think beach preparedness! :)
I woke up at around 1pm and got up and we tested the water and walked around the town a bit. It was amazing really. Mountains in the distance, castle on the top of a hill, beautiful streets and water. It was great :) AND there weren't many people. Which was key.
We stayed until around 5 when we caught a bus home and I took the bus back to my apt. while everyone else, exhausted, walked around the city to get ice cream. They are crazy. I got back at 6:30pm, ate a meal that my senora graciously prepared for me,
and then I passed out... until 10:30 the next day. Haha.
Sunday was pretty empty. I didn't really do anything but chill and sleep all day. I visited my friend vinny and his senora for a bit and skyped with Alyssa :) :) :) but thats about it.
So that was my weekend :) It was excellent. I spent a total of 18 Euros to do all that and I couldn't be more happy. This weekend we are going to Madrid, so I'll be sure to tell you all about how that went too!
Untill then, Paul From Granada :)
